What is Yin?
Also known as Restorative yoga, Yin yoga works deeply into the body in longer held poses with a firm focus on breath..and It’s a brilliant way to calm and sooth frayed nerves and emotional upheaval. Yin targets the deep connective tissue of our body - ligaments, fascia and joints. Yin yoga classes use bolsters, blankets, and blocks to prop students into passive poses so that the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to exert any strength-based effort. Yang yoga practices such as Hatha and Vinyasa have amore physical strengthening based approach.
Yin improves energy flow by targeting and enhancing the flow of chi in the organs. Mobility and flexibility is the key to keeping the body vital.
Yin offers incredible benefits for our mind and body:
Improves flexibility and increases circulation
Calms the mind and nervous system
Reduces anxiety and stress
Reduces tension by focusing on fascia release
Improves joint mobility
Balances the organs through meridian stimulation
Oh….and it feels really, really good! Yogis worldwide believe a good Yin class is more rejuvenating than a nap! Suburban Hippie Yoga incorporates a little bit of yin in all of its general classes as well as holding Yin only classes.
What is Hatha?
Hatha is arguably the basis of most yoga styles. It includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. As a rule, Hatha yoga is for all levels. The classes are typically gentle, but there is room to challenge yourself and take on tougher poses.
What is Vinyasa?
Vinyasa Yoga is also known as ‘Flow Yoga’ or ‘Power Yoga’ and is essentially movement linked with breath. The term Vinyasa is derived from “Nyasa” meaning “to place” and “vi” meaning “in a special way.” It’s a dynamic practice that’s often more playful and “flowy” than other styles. At Suburban Hippie Yoga, we love it for its ability to lift the heart rate, strengthen the body and help students slip into a moving meditation that benefits the body and calms the mind. All that set to to Suburban Hippie Yoga soundtrack equals pure bliss.
